HILL TOP BUNGALOW, CAMERON HIGHLANDS 2007.2007 PART I
So glad the NG's could join us and were kind enough to give Rach and I a lift. This time, we brought prawns and salmon up for the steam-boat. Must remember to bring some beef the next time.
The peaceful and stately house is just as I remember it. Rach had a problem differentiating it from the High Pines at Frasier's thou. The garden is now quite sparse compared to some years ago, when they won best garden in Camerons 3 years running. Still it was very neat and the rose beds were still there. Hill Top boasts of a semi-circular view of Camerons and sits on 8 acres of land. The bungalow is still clean and neat. It is merely 3 minutes drive away from the golf course and yet very secluded and away from the hustle and bustle of town. Air there is always cooler (20 degrees during the day) and cleaner as it is on the hill top and away from all the polution. What's best is they have a hainanese cook - Mrs Chong - who will pamper you with western and Malaysian cooking. Yes, for me, this is the place to stay in Camerons.
Quaint Real fire place
Some of the trips I recall were with Koon Tatt & Family - I remember Mei Mei blowing bubbles in the garden and the Chong's puppy chasing after them; Steven & Jessie - yes, Jessie and her midnight vegetarian soups were most popular; dear Tuck Meng , Yvonne & Ai Ling; David & Sharon, Hong, Julie & Chris, Eugene & Mei Lin, Bee Kwee - recall Koon Tatt evangelising to Bee Kwee and confessing to me she almost convinced him!!; My fondest memories are of my Mummy & Rach enjoying themselves there. My last trip there was with Rod, Bee Kwee and her family.
Only sadness being there this time around was watching the faithful caretaker Mrs Chong 63, having worked there for 27 years now, all alone, since Mr Chong passed away 3 years ago. She seemed so lonely and was most happy to see familiar faces from the past. (She has an amasing memory). She still keeps the house clean and her cooking is as good as ever. Oh, and the puppy there, is now a fully mature dog who no longer runs after/play with children. Memories....must blog abt my fond memories there sometime.
As usual we had way too many meals, 5 per day!!
He He....well only for 2 days.
Steamboat was fun
Had lotsa vege dishes
Baked Salmon with her homemade tartar sauce is divine
Yummy Bacon
Mrs Chong is famous for her desserts and marmalade jam
